October 22, 2026
The changes that hit Yosemite Valley last weekend did not spread evenly across the day. Most of the closures and trimmed hours that took effect October 24 through 26 fell on daytime service and on the things a summer day-tripper uses: bike rentals, the Village Grill, the Mountaineering School, the Glacier Point Gift Shop and afternoon hours at Bar 1899. The new programs on the calendar for November and December mostly start at 5 pm or later. For anyone who lives in El Portal, Mariposa, Oakhurst or the Valley itself, the Valley worth planning around this season is the one after dark.
The current Yosemite Guide, which covers September 23 through November 24, 2026, lays out the switchover service by service.
| Service | What changed | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Village Grill, Curry Village | Closed for the season | Oct. 25 |
| Bike Rentals | Closed for the season | Oct. 25 |
| Mountaineering School | Closed for the season | Oct. 25 |
| Glacier Point Gift Shop | Closed for the season | Oct. 25 |
| Bar 1899 | Now 4 pm to 9 pm, down from 11:30 am to 10 pm | Oct. 25 |
| Ahwahnee Dining Room | Lunch ends at 2 pm, Sunday brunch ends at 2 pm | Oct. 25 |
| Coffee Corner, Curry Village | Now 6:30 am to 11 am, down from 6 am to 2 pm | Oct. 26 |
| Pizza Deck | Now noon to 9 pm, down from 11 am to 10 pm | Oct. 26 |
| Mountain Room Restaurant | Now 5 pm to 9 pm | Oct. 26 |
| Yosemite Museum | Now 10 am to 4 pm | Oct. 24 |
Earlier in the month, the Valley Wilderness Center closed October 18, the Starbucks at Yosemite Valley Lodge cut back to 7 am to 3 pm on October 15, and Base Camp Eatery started closing at 8 pm on October 12. The Mountain Shop moved to 9 am to 6 pm on October 18.
Look at where the cuts fell. Bar 1899 gave up its whole midday stretch and kept its evenings. The Mountain Room gave up one hour at the end of the night. Coffee Corner now closes before lunch. The middle of the day got thinner while the dinner hour mostly held, which sets up everything else on the calendar.
The daytime Valley still works. You just plan around it now. Degnan's Kitchen stays open 7 am to 6 pm, with limited service from 11 to 11:30 am, and it's one of the places in the Valley with free Wi-Fi. The Village Store runs 8 am to 8 pm, and the Yosemite Valley post office keeps weekday hours of 8:30 am to 5 pm, plus 10 am to noon on Saturdays. Base Camp Eatery now opens for breakfast at 7 am instead of 6:30.
The ranger program schedule shrinks the same way. According to the Guide, the Wild Wonders Valley walk and the Sunday, Monday and Friday Ranger Walk both run through Friday, October 30. Ask-a-Climber also ends October 30, and the drop-in Jr. Ranger Discovery Table ends October 31. The Living Landscape walk runs daily at 1 pm through November 1, then drops to Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays starting November 2. The daily 2 pm Historic Ahwahnee Hotel Tour and the 3:30 pm Guided Nature Walk stay on the Guide's schedule.
The free Valley shuttles still run daily from 7 am to 10 pm. Valleywide buses come about every 22 to 32 minutes and East Valley buses about every 18 to 22. A shuttle that runs until 10 pm is what makes a Valley evening practical without moving the car between stops.
Starting this weekend, the Guide lists more programs in the evening than in the late afternoon:
Put the Conservancy sunset walk, a Mountain Room dinner and a night-sky program together and you have a full Friday or Saturday night in the Valley. The Mountain Room Lounge stays open until 10 pm every night, and the Ahwahnee Bar now runs 11:30 am to 10 pm. The Ahwahnee Dining Room still serves dinner from 5:30 to 9 pm and recommends reservations.
Getting into the Valley for an evening has also been simpler all year. The Park Service said in February that Yosemite would require no vehicle reservations at any point in 2026, even at peak times. It managed traffic with real-time monitoring and Valley parking management instead.
The bigger events on the Valley calendar follow the same pattern. Most happen at dinner or later.
Vintners' Holidays returns to The Ahwahnee in four sessions: November 8 to 11, November 11 to 13, November 15 to 18, and November 18 to 20. Each session opens with a 6 pm reception and ends with a Gala Dinner from 6:30 to 8:45 pm, according to TravelYosemite.
The Ansel Adams Gallery changes exhibitions the same week. "Peace of Place: Photographs by Represented Artists," featuring Alan Ross, John Sexton, Anne Larsen, Roman Loranc, Bob Kolbrener and Jeffrey Conley, closes November 7. "Earth is Home II: A World of Color, Photographs by Kerik Kouklis" opens November 8 and runs through January 9, 2027. The artist reception is Saturday, November 14, from 1 to 3 pm. The reception is one of the season's few daytime anchors. So is the Gallery's free Photography Walk, which leaves the Gallery porch at 9 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It's capped at 10 people, and registration opens three days ahead.
The Curry Village Ice Rink is scheduled to open November 13 if conditions allow. It runs 2.5-hour sessions at noon, 3:30 pm and 7 pm, plus an 8:30 am session on weekends. TravelYosemite's rink page still lists the 2026–27 opening date as TBD, so check it before you drive in on the 13th.
Thanksgiving Dinner at The Ahwahnee is November 26, served from noon to 8 pm.
TravelYosemite lists Curry Village as closed from November 29 through December 10, 2026. That window overlaps the start of the Valley's best-known winter evening event.
The Bracebridge Dinner has eight performances in The Ahwahnee Dining Room this year: December 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22. As of this month the December 12 dinner was sold out, and December 8 and 18 were listed as almost sold out. Holiday Concerts are on December 9, 15 and 19.
The year ends on another late night. The Ahwahnee's New Year's Eve Dinner Dance runs from 8:30 pm on December 31 to 12:30 am, with tickets still marked "coming soon." The Mountain Room at Yosemite Valley Lodge hosts New Year's Eve from 6 pm to 12:30 am, and its tickets can be bought on-site the day of the party. TravelYosemite says Chefs' Holidays will return in 2027, but it hasn't posted dates yet.
Snow sports at Yosemite Ski & Snowboard Area are a separate calendar. SnowBrains lists a projected opening of Saturday, December 26. That's a projection, and the operator hasn't posted an official 2026–27 date.
Weekday evening plans run into weekday roadwork. The Park Service's current conditions page warns of 15-minute delays at El Capitan Bridge, which connects Northside and Southside Drives, Monday through Friday from 7 am to 7 pm through December 2026, with brief closures possible. The Valley Loop Trail segment at that bridge is closed on weekdays for the same period. Big Oak Flat Road also has 15-minute weekday delays while crews clear vegetation between Foresta and Big Oak Flat.
Because the El Capitan delays end at 7 pm, a weekday dinner reservation means sitting through them on the way in but not on the way home. From the Highway 140 side, a 4 pm arrival for Bar 1899 runs into the restriction, while leaving after the 7:30 pm After Dark program does not.
Higher up, Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road were both open on the latest conditions update, with no overnight parking allowed on either road. The Guide says that parking restriction started October 15 and that both roads typically close sometime in November, on a date set by winter conditions. Before a weekend drive to Glacier Point, call the park's road line at 209/372-0200 for the current status.
